2014-15 Spring ACT Prep Course
Omniac Education and Rio Rancho High School are proud to offer the RRHS Spring ACT Prep Program for the 2014-15 school year! The program is intended to help students become "college ready" by raising ACT scores. The ACT Exam can be a formidable experience for many high school students but this unique course can help you master the tests and do your absolute best! This program is intended to prepare students for the April 18th, 2015 ACT Exam and class will begin on Tuesday, April 7th.

Program Summary:
  • 10 hours of Classroom instruction
  • 2 Diagnostic ACT Exams (one optional)
  • Omniac Manual (approx 100 pages)
  • Complimentary "Real ACT Prep Guide"
  • Maximum Class Size = 18 Students
  • Available only at RRHS!!
  • Course Cost is only $149!!!

UNM School of Engineering Summer Program
The Summer Transportation Institute (STI) is a summer program hosted by the Engineering Student Services department at the University of New Mexico. Current high school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for this program which is supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

This program runs from June 7th - 26th and the application must be submitted by May 29th.

Camp Cardiac
Camp Cardiac, run by local medical students in 24 cities nationwide, serves as an ideal introduction for any high school student interested in exploring a career in medicine.

With a focus on both education and real world experience, Camp Cardiac provides students with a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in the medical field. In addition, this 1-week summer day camp provides a foundation for heart healthy living with an emphasis on both diet and exercise. Although Camp Cardiac's primary focus is on care and maintenance of the heart, it provides an excellent starting point for careers in all fields of medicine.

Who Doesn't Need Help Going To College?!?

Each of ACF's 18 scholarship programs were established by a donor with individual interests and priority areas. They represent a broad diversity of people who care about education and they want to help students reach their goals!

Students may qualify for assistance if they answer yes to one or more of the following:
  • New Mexico resident?
  • High school senior or in college?
  • Have a 2.0 GPA or better?
  • Will go to college in New Mexico or out-of-state?
  • Will go to college full or part-time?
  • Attend or will attend college or public university?
  • Excel in S.T.E.M. classes?

Free Practice ACT!!!
Rio Rancho High School, in conjunction with Omniac Education, will be offering a Free Practice ACT Test for RRHS students on Saturday, March 7th from 8:30am to 12:00 pm in the RRHS Cafeteria. We will also be offering a follow up ACT Workshop on Tuesday, March 10th from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the Humanities Building classrooms. The ACT is a critical part of the college readiness and college admissions process for high school students so we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the exam and prepare your student to do their very best. Contact your students’ grade level counselor for more information and to sign up.

Info for Seniors headed to CNM in the Fall!!

The deadline for CNM’s Bridge Scholarship is May 1st. Seniors need to have their fall admissions application and their FAFSA completed and submitted to CNM by May 1st. The Career Exploration Exercise (FOCUS 2) is not required this year for the scholarship. Students will also be required to attend an in-person New Student Orientation which will take place in June and July. Contact CNM for those dates. Also, the 2015-2016 general CNM Scholarship is currently available. It’s located at http://www.cnm.edu/depts/financial-aid/forms/cnm-scholarship-application.

FAFSA Assistance Night for RRHS Seniors!!
Rio Rancho High School will be helping students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

A representative from New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation will be available to assist students and parents.

When: Tues., February 24, 2015 at 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: RRHS Media Center

Students: You may need to refer to:
  • Your Social Security card. It is important that you enter your Social Security Number correctly!
  • Your driver’s license (if any)
  • Your 2014-15 W-2 forms and other records of money earned
    • IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ
Parents: You may need to refer to:
  • Your Parents’ 2014-15 Federal Income Tax Return (if you are a dependent student)
  • Your 2014-15 untaxed income records
  • Your current bank statements
  • Your current business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond and other investment records
  • Your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

SPEED UP THE PROCESS!
Both student and parent will need a PIN to submit the FAFSA application electronically. Applying for a PIN may be done at the end of the on-line application. Or you can apply for a PIN number in advance, by going to; http://www.pin.ed.gov

NMSU Visit to RRHS
An admissions rep from New Mexico State University University will be visiting RRHS on Tuesday, February 3rd from 9:00am - 11:00am in the RRHS Media Center. CNM Hosting Open House at Rio Rancho AMREP Building on Thursday
CNM is hosting an Open House for anybody who is interested in taking classes at the AMREP Building in Rio Rancho for the Spring Term that begins Jan. 20. The Open House will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 4-6 p.m. at the AMREP Building, which is located at 333 NM 528 in Rio Rancho.

CNM employees will be on site to answer questions, provide help with the registration process, and offer tours of the facility.

CNM is offering 23 course sections at the AMREP Building for the spring term. Subjects include art, automotive, child development, criminal justice, public speaking, macroeconomics, electrical, emergency medical services, firefighting, math, nursing assistant, philosophy and psychology.
